This Saturday I had the privilege of running in the Cherish Kids 5k run. I didn’t win anything, but I got my best time ever by 2 minutes and 16 seconds, which was a reward in itself! My time was 23:20, placing me 7th in my age category(15-19) and 76th overall (716 people ended up crossing the finish line). I had a great time and was able to help raise money for children in need of adoption while I was doing it- what more could you ask for?

Luke joined the ranks of the teenagers on August 28! He went on a canoe trip with our dad from Friday afternoon til Sunday morning, when they came back to our house to join us. After going to church, we came back home and spent a relaxing remainder of the day, giving Luke his presents, swimming, watching movies and eating cake. We didn’t take that many pictures, but here they are, along with pictures he and dad took on their canoe adventure:

Roasting “Gourmet” (A.K.A. Hotdogs) over the fire.

I recently read my siblings “Wisdom and the Millers” and “Prudence and the Millers”, both by Mildred A. Martin. They are collections of short stories, in which the Miller children have various problems such as lying, tattling, snooping and slothfulness, which the children’s parents help them work out in a godly way- using a verse from proverbs as a framework for what they’re saying. Of all the children’s books I’ve reviewed so far, these ones are definitely the most character building, and I would highly recommend them to anyone, especially parents trying to instill godly principals into their children.
We all enjoyed them and would give them 5 out of 5 stars

Today I finished reading my younger brothers “Coon Tree Summer” by Mary Landis, the first book in a series that is continued by “Ice Slide Winter”, which I read to them several days ago. Just like “Ice Slide Winter” it was very, very good and continues (or actually, begins) the tradition of excellence that we all enjoyed from “Ice Slide Winter”, chronicling the many trials, adventures and projects of the Brooke family.

We would all highly recommend it, and I would give it 5 out of 5 stars.

“Coon Tree Summer” is available at Amazon.com

Today I finished reading my siblings “Ice Slide Winter” by Mary M. Landis. We all enjoyed the story as it following the adventures and excitement of the  8 Brooke children and their father and mother, as they built forts, sledded, and learned to “live together in unity”. I was really blessed by how well the children responded to the admonition and advice of their parents, always changing their ways when they were corrected.

I would give it 5 out of an available 5 stars

“Ice Slide Winter” is available both  new and used on Amazon.com

Isaac, John and I blessed the family by baking bread yesterday morning, and several of my sibs and I were able to get a few pictures of the excitement, which I thought you might enjoy.

Isaac was in charge of the wet ingredients

The dry ingredients were John’s domain

We all helped mix the dry and wet together

Isaac put the dough evenly into the 5 pans (with some help from me)

After it was done cooking, I took it out of the roaster (which we used instead if the oven to avoid heating up the house)

Unfortunately, while it cooked, the bread has rose a lot more than I had expected it too, resulting in this sorry looking mess!
(They still tasted good,though!)

Yesterday I finished reading “Autumn With the Moodys” to my siblings. We all really enjoyed it and we would all highly recommend it for it’s humor, it’s literary quality, and it’s wonderful christian message that is woven throughout the story, which includes some good examples of witnessing and dealing with problems and trials in a biblical way. I would give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

“Autumn With the Moodys” is available at Amazon.com and Titus2.com

John turned 8 on Saturday, August 13 and we all had a wonderful time celebrating with him, I took pictures all day and I thought you might enjoy seeing some of the highlights:

After we ate breakfast, John opened his presents, which included some diet Coke and Mentos for an experiment

The evil genius in action!

John and Isaac enjoyed cooling off in the pool to escape the 100 degree heat

While John was swimming, Rachel and I made pizzas for his birthday dinner

The test…
They passed!
After dinner, Mom and Rachel prepared us all a delicious dessert of Angelfood cake, strawberries, and whipped cream
Make a wish!

Yesterday night I finished reading my younger sibs the first book in the Moody family series: “Summer With the Moodys”. It is a little bit more far-fetched and crazy then the other 4 books that we’ve read, but that kind of gives it a special charm that makes it stand out as a little bit more of a funny, exciting book! I liked this book because the siblings actually had a (very) few conflicts, which their parents showed them how to work out in a constructive and God-honoring way, somewhat unlike the other books, where the children act almost “angelically” and unrealistically good. We all really enjoyed this book and would give it 5 out of 5 stars!
You can buy it on Amazon.com used, or at Titus2.com new.

I recently finished reading “Summer Days with the Moodys” aloud to my younger siblings, it is the 5th book in the “Moody Family” series and, continuing the tradition of the first 4, is very good and edifying. I was really encouraged by how well behaved the children were, always being respectful and obedient to each other, their parents, and anyone else that they came in contact with. If you want a fun read-aloud (or read-alone) I would Highly recommend you get a copy of “Summer Days with the Moodys”!
I would give this book 4.5 out of an available 5.
“Summer Days with the Moodys” isn’t currently available at Amazon.com, but you can buy it new on Titus2.com
